We are the Howes Family, from left: Tristan, Chalie, Evelyn, Kristopher and Charles. And it all started with a little gardening magazine.
When my husband and I were first married, just the thought of gardening was overwhelming. How could I possibly know what to plant and where? There are thousands of species, and narrowing it down to what would work for our home seemed near impossible.
It was our first Christmas as a married couple, and one of the gifts in my stocking was a Better Homes & Gardens magazine featuring easy to replicate garden designs. I flipped through it at my grandmother's dining room table, and as I studied the pages I became inspired and encouraged for the spring ahead.
Was it success right away? Absolutely not! I think I changed plants around almost every spring for the first few years. But each time I planted something I grew my knowledge.
Fast forward to 2019, we purchased the land that would become our families forever home and the location for Howesclere. How we got it is a lovely story on its own, so we will save that for a later day. But now after five years of hard work we are ready to share our dream and passion for gardening with our community.
We can't wait to welcome you to this inspiring place. But now I think it's time to tune into our nightly routine of Gardeners World on the couch. Oh, and by the way, we still have that magazine.
